When did you Start at Fortius?
November 2012

Sports/Fitness Background?
Like many youths, I was involved in sports during my school days (football, track, baseball).

Why the Jump into CrossFit?
I wasn’t seeing any real results with my routine of bench pressing and running on treadmill. My friend introduced me to CrossFit, and I loved it because it was fun and challenging.

Why did you choose Fortius?
Aside from being in a great location and having competitive rates, the biggest reason I chose Fortius was the coaching. I was coming off a major pectoral injury that left me inactive for months. When I started my trial week, I was weak, out of shape, and overweight. Jesse and Dave worked with me while I recovered, making sure I didn’t re-injure myself and that I had proper technique. Their extensive knowledge with weightlifting and attention to injury prevention is what sets them apart from other gyms.

What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
Since joining Fortius, I can say with confidence that I am in the best shape of my life. With a slight change in diet and going to Fortius 4-5 days a week, I have lost 35 pounds and am the strongest I’ve ever been. Also, I am able to do most of the advanced movements such as muscle ups and hand stand push ups (another testament to Fortius coaching).

Favorite and Least Favorite CrossFit Movements?
Favorite movement: Double Unders / Triple Unders
Least Favorite: Running = Weak sauce

Biggest Misconception about CrossFit?
That it is a super-grueling workout that only elite athletes can do. Yes, a workout can be hard, but it can be scaled and modified to any person’s fitness level. It can even be modified for people who are recovering from a major injury.

Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
Go to Fortius (or another CF gym if you do not live within a 50 mile radius) and try it!

What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
I have two goals: 1) to do 20 triple unders broken and 2) not make stupid faces every time I am getting my picture taken in the middle of a lift.
