When did you start at Fortius?
Sports / Fitness background?
Before starting crossfit, I ran track for Orange Coast College and Long Beach State. I was a sprinter and Javelin thrower. Outside of competing I like to Surf, Snowboard, Hike/Camp. I try to stay as active as I can.
Why the jump into CrossFit?
I first joined Crossfit back in 2010 up at Crossfit Newport Beach. My brother was a coach there and he started training me. It reminded me a lot of being on a team back in college.
Why did you choose Fortius?
When I first moved to San Diego for work, I started looking up different CF gyms near where I was going to be living and working. I found some really good Yelp reviews about Fortius and their Olympic Lifting programming. I really liked the area, being away from busy streets and having decent parking compared to other local gyms.
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
I have really stepped up my lifting game this year. All my maxes have gone up due to the programming at Fortius. Very happy with the results.
Biggest misconception about CrossFit?
One of the misconception I hear about Crossfit is that it can be bad for the body. I don’t believe that, with proper coaching and training, Crossfit can be one of the best things for ones body.
Favorite and Least Favorite CrossFit movements?
Double Unders and Cleans for my favorite, Dips and Snatches for my least favorite.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
Take the time to learn each of the movements and listen to the coachs. Leave your egos at the door, everything comes in time.
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Some of my goals for my CF future are getting a muscle up this year, competing in some of the local CF events, doing another ½ marathon and just staying as active as I can.
